American Chronicle | Former Vanderbilt coach Johnson set to return to his roots
Three months have passed since Bobby Johnson abruptly and surprisingly retired as Vanderbilt’s football coach. Johnson admits he misses coaching, so he still spends much of his free time around the football team.
Johnson works out daily at Vanderbilt. He occasionally ducks his head into the team’s film sessions. He attends practices and will be in the stands Saturday when South Carolina plays at Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville, Tenn.
Bobby Johnson is a class act and I wish him well in his future endeavors.
Coaching at Vanderbilt is an act of love; love of the game and love of true student athletes. Men and women who coach at such schools are to be admired and respected.
The coaching profession has become much more about spin and damage control. I suspect most coaches would enjoy a return to the simpler days as Coach Johnson remembers them.
