SEC Men’s Basketball-A Peek Ahead

Now that we have the first game behind us, let’s take a look ahead at the first full week of men’s basketball play.  There were a few shockers in the first game, but they will not be the last in this league this year.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 11
Auburn at Kentucky-The Tigers will wilt easily in the Cat’s lair and there will be little notice on the Plains since the Football Tigers will have just won the BCS Football National Championship

Florida at Tennessee-A real marquee matchup that the Vols should win for two reasons; they are at home and the NEED to win.  That should be enough

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12
Arkansas at -Arkansas should win this game, but I have a hunch that they will falter on the road in the Maravich center.
Georgia at Vanderbilt-Another great game between two contenders in the East.  Georgia is tough, but Vandy should win at home.
South Carolina at Alabama-Carolina looked tough at home, but will falter in the Houndstooth palace in Tuscaloosa.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 13
Mississippi St at Ole Miss-Egg Bowl for roundball at the Tad Pad-Two teams going nowhere fast.  I think the Bulldogs pull off the upset against the “team from the north.”

SATURDAY, JANUARY 15
Vanderbilt at Tennessee
-My only question is this; will Tony Jones wear Bruce’s orange blazer or does he own one of those ugly jackets?  Vols win at home…

South Carolina at Florida-Gators should win at home.

Alabama at Arkansas-Arkansas will be hard to beat the world’s largest Wal-Mart

LSU at Kentucky-Good game to pick up tickets outside since most UK fans know that this will be a large blowout.  LSU fans are already thinking about baseball and football for next year.

Georgia at Ole Miss-Georgia will rebound and win in the Tad Pad in Oxford.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 16
Auburn at Mississippi St-A real snoozer-The Bulldogs should win at home and people on the Plains will still be talking about the win over Oregon.

SEC Player of the week: Sam Muldrow of USC-Muldrow had a triple double (points, rebounds and blocked shots) in the Cocks OT win over Vandy

Newcomer of the week:  Bruce Ellington of USC (Devan Downey’s reincarnation) scored 22 points in his conference debut

SEC standings after one game:

East

Georgia, USC and Florida all have one win.

Vandy, UK and UT all have one loss

West

Bama, Arkansas and LSU all have wins.

Auburn, MSU and Ole Miss have one blemish

Have a great week and root for the Tigers against the Ducks on Monday night!
