SEC Men’s Basketball Predictions-Week of January 25, 2011

We are 25% of the way through the Men’s SEC season and here are the standings as of today:

East

Florida                4-1
Georgia               3-2
Kentucky             3-2
South Carolina   3-2
Tennessee          2-2
Vanderbilt           2-2

West

Alabama     4-1
             2-2
Miss. St.      2-2
Arkansas     2-3
Ole Miss      1-4
Auburn        0-5

As I said at the outset, the East is far superior to the West and this imbalance will become even more evident after the next two weeks.

Congrats to the Men’s Player of the Week,

Lance Goulbourne  of Vanderbilt.  Lance has taken up much of the slack caused by nagging injuries to Festus Ezeli and of the Commodores.

Here are my predictions for the week.  Buckle up and settle in; the SEC East is getting interesting and I predict the winner of the East will have a minimum of 5 losses in conference play by the end of the regular season.

Tuesday January 25

Florida at Georgia-The Bulldogs will prevail at home
Auburn at Arkansas-The Hogs will feast on the Tigers

Wednesday January 26

LSU at Tennessee-The Vols will let down and lose at home to LSU

Thursday January 27

Vandy at Miss. St.-The Dores will win a nail biter at the Hump.

Saturday January 29

Florida at Miss. St.-The Gators will get back on track against the Bulldogs
Auburn at South Carolina-The Gamecocks will make up for football disappointment versus the Tigers
Tennessee at Ole Miss-The Vols drop a second game versus the hungry Rebels
Georgia at Kentucky-The Wildcats make up for the loss at UGA by routing the Dawgs
Arkansas at Vanderbilt-Vandy holds on to win at home
LSU at Alabama-Bama holds on to win at home

Stay tuned for more with games next week between Vandy and Florida and Kentucky at Florida.
