SEC Update and the Coming Week: February 13, 2011
It was an exciting week in SEC Men’s basketball last week and we will take a quick glance back as well as a quicker glance forward as we have passed the halfway point in the conference season.
Here are the Men’s basketball standings as of this morning:
Vandy had a great week, winning at home versus Alabama and Kentucky. Florida continues their winning ways with four straight victories. Tennessee is reeling, even on the heels of the return of Bruce Pearl and LSU is a sinking ship, having lost their last 8. We’ll talk in a future post about coaches on thin ice in this league, but certainly Bruce Pearl and Trent Johnson
may have trouble sleeping at night right now. Andy Kennedy may not be far behind and Rick Stansbury has some major issues to deal with in Starkville.
Here are the games for the coming week. We are only 3 weeks away from the conference tournament in Atlanta and it will be interesting to see how the seeding plays out with the way teams are bunched up right now. Florida and ‘Bama looks solid to win their divisions barring a total collapse, but the #2 slot is open on both sides.
Tuesday February 15
Miss. St at Kentucky-Cats will get healthy at home and Rick Stansbury will frown more with another loss
Wednesday February 16
Vandy at Georgia-My heart says Vandy, but my head says that Georgia wins at home.
South Carolina at Tennessee-This is a MUST win for the Vols, but I think they will stumble again versus the Gamecocks
Florida A&M at Arkansas-Arkansas should win handily versus the Rattlers
Auburn at Ole Miss-Ole Miss should win at home, but I predict the Tigers will garner their third conference win at the Tad Pad
Thursday February 17
Alabama at LSU-Should be a cakewalk for Bama in the Whisper dome
Saturday February 19
Georgia at Tennessee-The Vols continue reeling and lose at home to a surging Bulldog team
Ole Miss at Miss. St.-Controversy meets controversy as the Bulldogs host the Rebels; Andy Kennedy wins a close one in Starkville
Vandy at Auburn-Dores win on the road at Auburn in the new Auburn Arena-I’ll be there in person in Section 107
South Carolina at Kentucky-Wildcats win another one, a close one, at home
Arkansas at Alabama-Rotnei Clarke and crew go down in flames in Tuscaloosa
Sunday February 20
Florida at LSU-Gators have a cakewalk in Baton Rouge
